Junior Penetration Tester – Role Description
A Junior Penetration Tester assists in identifying security weaknesses in systems, networks, and applications under the guidance of senior security professionals. The role focuses on learning practical offensive security techniques, following established testing methodologies, and contributing to improving an organization’s security posture.
Responsibilities

Assist in conducting penetration tests on web applications, networks, and systems

Perform basic vulnerability assessments using automated and manual techniques

Identify common security issues such as misconfigurations, weak authentication, and input validation flaws

Use standard security tools to scan, enumerate, and analyze targets

Document findings clearly, including steps to reproduce and potential impact

Support senior pentesters during red team or security assessment engagements

Follow ethical hacking standards and confidentiality requirements

Continuously learn new attack techniques, tools, and defensive measures
Required Skills

Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, ports, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS)

Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems

Knowledge of common vulnerabilities (OWASP Top 10, basic CVEs)

Experience with entry-level security tools (e.g., Nmap, Burp Suite, Metasploit)

Basic scripting or programming knowledge (Python, Bash, or similar)

Ability to write simple technical reports
